Introduction: Bangladesh is an unexplored stopover destination for holiday makers. Situated in the north eastern part of South Asia, covering a total area of 144,000 square kilometers, the location of the country is in between 20º 34' and 26º 36' north latitude and 88º 01' and 92º 41' east longitude. For the tourists, it has many unique attractions to offer. The SUNDARBANS FOREST, the largest mangrove forest in the world, is the natural habitat of the Royal Bengal Tiger. COX'S BAZAR, the longest (120 km) unbroken natural beach of the world. The tribal life in RANGAMATI, offers a repository of wonderful scenic plendours with flora and fauna of varied description. And SYLHET, the land of "Two leaves and bud" with its gently rolling hills, lush green tea gardens and vast unexplored wetlands provides another unforgettable destination. And in the rainy season the whole of Bangladesh turns into a natural wonder.
Climate & Season: The climate is sub-tropical with temperature ranging from day time low of 18ºC in the cold season to a maximum 38ºC in the summer with an average annual rainfall of 78.8 inches. The country has mainly four seasons i.e. the Winter (Dec-Feb), Summer (Mar-May), Manson (June-Sept) and Autumn (Oct-Nov). Winter is a pleasant season when average maximum and minimum temperatures are 26.5ºC and 13.5ºC respectively. But the best season for the tourists is from October-March. However, rainy season has got its own charm for the tourists.
Population: 130 million Currency: The unit is Taka, made up of 100 paisa. The present rate of exchange is one US$ equivalent to Taka 58.00.
Language: The state language and mother tongue of a vast majority is Bangla, but English is widely spoken and understood.
Time: GMT + 6 hours
Customs: Tourists can bring in personal effects, 200 cigarettes and one litre of liquor free of duty. They can bring any amount of foreign exchange in the form of Travellers Cheques and notes. No declaration is required up to US$5000.00
Passport and Visa: A valid passport is required to get entry to Bangladesh. Before Travelling to Bangladesh a valid entry visa is also required. Visa may be obtained at the ZIA International Airport for the travelers of the country where Bangladesh Mission is not available. A tourist may contact with nearest Bangladesh Mission for any information.
