Checked
In Baggage
Baggage can be classified in two ways: checked in baggage,
which is stowed in the aircraft's hold and cabin baggage,
which you may carry with you onto the aircraft.
For obvious reasons, there are limits on the amount and weight of
luggage each passenger can bring on a flight. These limits vary
depending on which country you are travelling to. International
checked baggage allowances
If you are travelling to or from the USA, your baggage allowance
will be based on the number of pieces of baggage. You are allowed
two pieces of baggage per person, neither of which may exceed a
total dimension (length + width + height) of 158cm (62in). Within
this size allowance, neither piece may exceed 32kg in weight.
On all other international journeys your baggage allowance is based
on weight. Each piece should not exceed a total dimension of 158cm/62ins
nor exceed the weight.
Economy Class - 20 kilos;
Business Class - 30 kilos;
Infants - 1 piece, maximum weight 10kgs, maximum dimensions 115cms.
On all domestic flights your baggage allowance is again based on
weight. Each piece should not exceed a total dimension of 158cm/62ins
nor exceed the weight. The total allowed limit is 20 Kilos.
Cabin Baggage
Along with checked-in baggage you may also take the following hand
luggage on the plane with you. One piece of hand luggage with a
maximum combined dimension of 115cm on jet services or 105cm on
Link services, both with a maximum weight of 7kg for all customers.
A garment bag may be substituted for the one piece.
For the safety and comfort of all passengers, all carry-on items
must be capable of being stowed in the overhead lockers or under
the seat in front of you.
Business class customers may take 2 pieces of baggage with a maximum
combined dimension (length + width + height) of 115cm each. Maximum
weight of 7kgs per piece. Exception: Due to the current security
processing required by the USA Federal Aviation Administration,
for flights to/from/through the USA, passengers travelling in all
classes are allowed to bring one carry-on, not to exceed 115 cms
or weigh in excess of 7 kgs, plus one personal item such as a purse,
laptop or briefcase.
Overweight Or Unaccompanied Baggage
When you check in for your flight, your baggage is weighed. If it
is overweight it will normally still be allowed on the plane, but
you will be charged at a set rate for the amount by which it exceeds
your free allowance. One way to carry more baggage than your free
allowance, while avoiding excess baggage charges, is to send any
clothes and personal items as cargo before you depart yourself,
for which you'll pay a lower rate. However, items sent this way
won't necessarily travel on the same aircraft as you.
What Goods Can Be Carried On Board?
Modern aircraft are fitted with sensitive electronic equipment which
can be affected by some types of electronic equipment carried by
passengers. For this reason, restrictions on the type of equipment
you may bring on board apply. The following portable electronic
devices may be used on the aircraft at any time: portable voice
recorders (hand held units powered by dry cell batteries), hearing
aids, heart pacemakers,
electric shavers, watches, hand held calculators. The following
may be used after take-off and before landing, when the seatbelt
sign is off: portable notebook computers, portable video recorders
and cameras, portable radios and televisions with headphones, walkman
disc players, hand-held electronic games. Mobile cellular phone
usage is permitted on all Biman aircraft when the aircraft is stationary
on the ground, with the entry door(s) open and engines are not running.
Please ensure mobile cellular phones are switched off when the entry
door is closed (i.e. before departure, during flight and prior to
the doors opening on arrival). Please check with your travel agent
or Biman Office when you book your flight if you are unsure whether
the equipment you intend taking is permitted on the aircraft.
Dangerous Goods
For your own safety, international regulatory authorities have placed
certain restrictions or prohibitions on the carriage of dangerous
goods, whether these be stowed in checked baggage or cabin baggage.
These include briefcases with alarm devices; gases (including Camping
Gas); corrosives such as mercury wet cell batteries; explosives
such as fireworks and flares; flammable liquids such as lighter
fuel; flammable solids such as fire lighters and matches; oxidising
substances such as bleaching powder; poisonous and infectious substances;
radioactive materials and magnetised materials. If you are unsure
whether you can take something on the aircraft, ask your travel
agent or nearest Biman Office.
We look forward to extending to you the warmest welcome when you
next fly with us.
We wish you a pleasant flight!
